FRISCO, Texas — The city of Frisco took almost unprecedented action in banning the use of the electronic cigarettes where smoking is also prohibited.

With a 6-0 vote, the City Council unanimously approved the ordinance. It also prohibits sales of e-cigarettes to minors.

"While I agree with you that 'vaping' is not the same as a tobacco product, nor is it the same as non-smoking," said Council member Will Sowell.

The Council's ban on sales of e-cigarettes to minors is something most e-cigarette shops already do, including DFW Vapor in Frisco.

The city agreed not to require ventilation rooms at e-cigarette stores, a move that store owners called "costly."

"I also don't see a reason for it, because what exactly are we ventilating?" asked Dave Carr of DFW Vapor.

The ordinance takes effect starting next month.
