One of the lead investigators searching for an American who disappeared on a border lake has been killed. The police commander’s beheaded body turned up in a Mexican town near Falcon Lake.
On Tuesday, a spokesman with the Tamaulipas Attorney General's Office confirmed the murder of Rolando Flores. The spokesman would not say how the investigator was killed, but did say the man's head was delivered to the Mexican military in a suitcase.
The spokesman said the police commander's killing had nothing to do with the Falcon Lake case. He would not elaborate.
Flores was among a group of investigators helping search for David Hartley, a Texas man who disappeared September 30. Hartley's wife, Tiffany, told authorities that pirates chased the couple, shooting David in the head. The Hartleys were jetskiing on the lake that spans the Mexico/U.S. border, where pirates operate.
The Mexican side of the border is Zeta territory, a drug cartel notorious for beheadings.
