DENTON, Texas -- A University of North Texas food services employee has pleaded guilty to the 2009 shooting death of his boss after she criticized him for unsatisfactory work.
Testimony was scheduled to continue Tuesday in Denton in the penalty phase for 48-year-old William Xu. He pleaded guilty Monday to murder and faces up to life in prison.
The body of 55-year-old Jennifer Ying Ying Maik was discovered in August 2009 in her Denton home. Maik was a food service supervisor at UNT’s Clark Hall. Police records indicate Maik had reprimanded Xu for poor work.
The Denton Record-Chronicle reports Xu has asked to be sentenced
by Judge Bruce McFarling, instead of by a jury.
