SAN ANTONIO-- Thelma Food Mart at 24945 Pleasanton Road sold the winning lotto ticket Wednesday afternoon. It was a quick-pick sold at around 5 p.m.
Thursday night Stanley Smith made his usual visit to Thelma Food Mart for a Dr. Pepper and a few scratch-off tickets.
Everyone was talking about the winning Lotto Texas ticket for $32 million. That's when a store clerk urged Smith to return to his vehicle to check the quick-pick he'd bought on Wednesday.
Smith realized he had the winning numbers and said he could only describe the initial feeling as numbness.
"I'm ecstatic. Thank you all," said 56-year-old. "Most of it will be put in trust funds or somewhere safe. I'm not going to change a whole lot, just enough to get by. Now I can buy anything I want."
Smith plans to pay off his bills and help his son-in-law who has had a difficult time at work recently.
"This money will help a whole lot," said Smith.
Stanley has worked in machine maintenance for 34 years and said he'll show up to work for just a little while Friday morning.
Stanley has two children and two grandchildren.
