AUSTIN, Texas -- A loaded gun was found at Webb Middle School on Monday, according to the Austin School District.
According to AISD, around 9:50 a.m. students told school administrators that a classmate had brought a loaded weapon to school. Investigators spent four hours interviewing students while police searched the entire campus.
They found a loaded 25-caliber semi-automatic handgun around 2 p.m. under a portable building. The gun had five rounds inside the magazine and none in the chamber.
No one was in possession of the weapon when it was found, and there was no indication of any additional weapons.
"What we know from the allegation is that one student brought the gun. What we're learning through the investigation is maybe more than one student handled the gun in order to hide it. And so all of those students that participated in either having the gun or handling the gun could face some sort of student code of conduct violantion," AISD Police Chief Eric Mendez said.
The school will host a parent meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Webb Middle School cafeteria regarding the incident. Chief Mendez will be at the meeting.
