LAKE WORTH -- Lake Worth ISD announced Thursday afternoon that all districts events Thursday night are canceled and all campuses will be closed Friday because of the shooting last week in Connecticut.
District officials said they had a lot of concerned parents, so they decided to take a weather day Friday. In a statement to parents, the superintendent said in light of recent national events it was in the best interest of the district to take the day off, so parents could spend time with their children.
Some parents News 8 spoke to Thursday supported the district's decision, while others thought it was an inconvenience.
"I'm sure it's going to be a hardship for some of the parents tomorrow, especially the ones that have to work and don't have the luxury to pick up their children," said Sue Fern, the grandparent of a student.
The district apologized for the inconvenience, but no one was available for comment.
The district will eventually have to make the weather day up.
Lake Worth is located about 15 miles northwest of Fort Worth.
