FRISCO, Texas -- Another North Texas city has banned K2. The Frisco City Council approved the ban Thursday night.
Bans against the incense that kids and adults have used to get high is a growing effort across North Texas, and has already happened in Plano, Allen, Mansfield and McKinney.
K2 is sold in stores, and some say it can give users a high much like marijuana when smoked.
"We went to this one shop; it's like all over," said a 15-year-old who once smoked the herb mixture but has now stopped. "We didn't even use that much ... It's like really messed up."
The teen hasn't smoked K2 for five weeks after counseling.
"People talk about the intense hallucinations, almost having seizures, the heart beating you're talking about [and] how it can impair you," said John Wills , a drug counselor.
Wills said the synthetic marijuana has become popular since it's so readily available and undetectable in most drug tests. However it can be detected at Deer Park, where a laboratory has the technology to test for the substance. K2 is legal, but some say it's not harmless.
"It really made me paranoid," said the teen who recently kicked his K2 smoking habit.
Sen. Florence Shapiro wants to ban K2 statewide and is already working on the legislation. It's an idea Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert and Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway both support.
