IRVING, Texas -- Irving police arrested a Dallas woman Tuesday night for driving the wrong way on the President George Bush Turnpike.

In a news release, the department said 23-year-old Julia Crain Brooks was observed headed south in the northbound lanes at a high rate of speed around 11:20 p.m.

Police said the suspect came close to hitting other vehicles on the highway before her vehicle was slowed by spike strips and then finally stopped by a patrol car that intentionally rammed Brooks' car.

Investigators said Brooks was intoxicated when taken into custody.

She was charged with DWI and evading arrest. Bond was set at $26,000.
