LUMBERTON, Texas – A spring break trip turned tragic Tuesday for a group of Houston-area students in East Texas.

The teens were completing volunteer work in Lumberton when they decided to take a break for a swim at Village Creek State Park in the creek.

Terumah Ams, 18, went under water and didn’t come back up. He began having trouble and the others in the group tried to help, but were unable to help him back to the bank.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. and his body was not recovered until just before 6 p.m.
