AUSTIN, Texas -- A grandmother is facing charges after police said she was caught driving drunk with her infant grandchild in the car.
Brenda Lee Chapman was arrested Saturday morning northwest of Austin on Highway 71 in the Bee Creek subdivision.
A sheriff's deputy says he found the 51-year-old's car stopped in a northbound lane of traffic. The infant was in the backseat in an unsecured carrier.
Deputies say a smoking pipe, an open bottle of wine, a prescription bottle and a dozen pills were found inside the car.
Chapman told the deputy she was driving from Houston to the home of the child's parents. Deputies said she also admitted to drinking earlier that night.
The infant was placed in the care of her mother. Chapman has since bonded out of jail.
