SAN ANTONIO -- Two hotel employees noticed a familiar face when a man handed them a big bill for change. San Antonio police say they recognized the man from a similar caper in September of 2012.
They didn't arouse suspicion as they called police early Tuesday morning.
That call turned into a bust of an alleged counterfeit operation authorities have wanted to stop for months.
SAPD and the U.S. Secret Service took two men, whose identities have not been released, into custody early Tuesday morning.
According to investigators, men, both in their 20s, were passing off phony legal tender to get real cash back in change.
Police say they surrounded the Red Roof Inn in the 6800 block of NW Loop 410. Officers say they captured two of four men who were inside of a hotel room. They reportedly found fake cash, a printer, and other material in the room.
Investigators believe the men may be connected to a number of counterfeit bills showing up at businesses along Loop 410.
