Driver killed after car plunges into San Antonio River

SAN ANTONIO -- A vehicle crashed into the San Antonio River early Tuesday morning killing the driver. According to police, a car was traveling down SE Military Drive around 2:00 a.m. when it somehow left the roadway, traveled across a grassy area before plummeting into the river. Investigators said eyewitnesses saw the vehicle speeding just before the accident, but they weren't clear on the cause of the crash. Emergency crews used floatation devices in attempt to raise the car to the surface of the river and rescue the driver. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
