LAKE TRAVIS, Texas -- Rescue teams are still searching for a man believed to have drowned in Lake Travis on Sunday.
Witnesses say a 20-year-old Los Angeles man jumped off a boat and did not resurface on VIP Marina Lake Travis in Volente on Sunday.
Travis County Sheriff's Deputies told KVUE it happened around 6:40 p.m. as the boat was returning to shore. After 20 minutes, rescue crews moved from rescue to recovery mode. A dive team is currently in the area searching for the body. Rescue boats say the water in that area is 100 feet deep.
The search included a helicopter, dive teams and a submersible vehicle.
The man was interning for a Dallas-based company, which was having a work party on Lake Travis. Deputies are unsure what caused him to drown.
"It's a busy lake. With the drought, it's not as busy, but certainly busy. And it's not like swimming, where you can just jump in and see what you're jumping into, so we just don't know if he hit something or if something occurred medically and he stated to struggle, and that will be part of the investigation," said Lisa Block, Travis County Sheriff's Office spokesperson.
KVUE will update this story as we learn more information.
