DALLAS — Police said a resident at a high-rise near Uptown was fatally shot by officers after he reported a burglary and then barricaded himself in a hallway Thursday morning, read a statement from Dallas police based on their preliminary investigation.
According to police, a 47-year-old resident of the Glass House complex approached an employee at the building at about 1:39 a.m. and alleged a burglary was underway inside his apartment, located in the 2700 block of McKinnon St. The employee called 911 and the resident then "moved to an adjacent hallway and began barricading himself," police said.
Upon their arrival, officers attempted to talk with the suspect, who fired shots, according to police.
"The individual then moved from his barricaded position towards the officers," the statement read. "It was then that the officers returned fire, striking him. He was pronounced dead at the scene."
Police have not released the identity of the man.
An investigation into the fatal incident is underway.
