DALLAS — Authorities in Dallas announced an arrest in the case of a hit-and-run accident that left a 7-year-old girl with fatal injuries.
Dallas police announced the arrest on their Twitter account early Thursday morning.
According to police, Melany Valdez was struck by a car as she crossed the street with a friend during a walk with her mother, grandmother and sisters late Tuesday night in the 6900 block of Hemlock Avenue. Witnesses told police the driver continued to head north on Hemlock Avenue and failed to stop. A passing motorist drove Valdez to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Dallas police said they were able to track down the suspect's vehicle Wednesday. Just before 6 a.m. Thursday, Lt. Stephen Geron revealed the suspect was "taken into custody overnight."
Geron said more details pertaining to the arrest would be released Thursday morning.
