DALLAS — Dallas police said a suspected burglar was shot and wounded by a homeowner on Sunday morning.
According to the official report, it all started around 10:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Eastern Oaks Drive when the 24-year-old resident heard a knock at the door. Then the two suspects began kicking the door.
The homeowner retrieved a 9mm Jennings handgun and told two family members to remain in the back bedroom.
"The complainant observed the suspects inside his residence and fearing for the safety of his family and himself, he fired his gun and struck one of the suspects," Dallas police Senior Cpl. Sherri Jeffrey said in a written statement.
The wounded suspect was hit in the left shoulder and taken to Baylor University Medical Center, where he was reported in fair condition.
"The other suspect fled the location and is still at large," Jeffrey said.
No one in the residence was hurt, and no charges have been filed against the homeowner.
