CARROLLTON, Texas — A police chase ended with a car in the water at in Carrollton Tuesday night.

Investigators said the driver fled as officers attempted to pull the car over for a traffic violation on Interstate 35E around 9:30 p.m.

The pursuit ended on Luna Road near Valley View Lane when the driver went off the street, crashed into a utility pole, then careened into a creek.

"I hear a lot of trucks coming over this bridge and they make a loud noise, but this is much louder than I've ever heard," said Kurt Howell, owner of nearby AmeriTint window services. "It startled me enough that I got away from my desk and ran out here to see what was up."

Carrollton firefighters had to deal with downed power lines to free the injured suspect, who was stuck in the partially submerged car. He took out a pair of utility poles on his way into the water. The unnamed driver was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Luna Road remained shut down into the dawn hours so police could investigate the scene following the crash.
