DALLAS -- Bidding was brisk as the end approached in a charity auction for a Texas A&M “12THMAN” specialty auto license plate on Thursday.

My Plates, the state customized license plate contractor, auctioned off the 10-year rights to the plate for a final bid of $115,000.

The winner can renew rights to the plate after 10 years for $795.

The winning bid set a new record for Texas plates. The previous record holder was the plate 'HOUSTON,' which sold for $25,000, according to My Plates.

Bidding ended at noon Thursday, and the plate will be presented to the winning bidder during the Texas A&M-Alabama game on Saturday.

Proceeds from the MyPlates.com 12THMAN Auction benefit Texas A&M University and the General Revenue Fund of Texas. My Plates will donate its share to the University.
