AUSTIN, Texas --The West Campus area has been ranked 6th among the most dangerous neighborhoods in the country for property crime, according to a 2008 study on NeighborhoodScout.com.

According to the website and FBI data, after living in the area for more than a year, a resident has a 1 in 2 chance of being robbed.

Among the robberies, cars, patio furniture and bicycles all ranked high on the list.

Students at UT say they still see thefts happen in the area on a regular basis, especially bicycles.

"It's such a bike culture here that bikes actually have value," according to student Levi Johnson.

Another student, Freshman Sam Trejo says, "You could take a front wheel and that is worth $50 bucks right there."

Even if you are using a lock, Sam Trejo says, "be sure invest in a study one."
