AUSTIN -- A missing swimmer's body, who witnesses say slipped beneath the water near the Montopolis bridge has been recovered.
The Austin Police Department's Recovery Dive Team located the body of a 43-year-old Hispanic man shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday. The man had been missing since 6:15 Thursday evening when witnesses said he disappeared under the water while his children watched from the shore.
Robert Hull, a Del Valle ISD sixth-grade teacher attempted to swim out and rescue the father but was unable to reach him.
Rescue divers, equipped with snorkels and fins arrived soon after, fighting through debris and murky water in a follow-up search that also proved unsuccessful.
Austin firefighters say the location of the drowning is one they've responded to multiple times for near-drowning incidents.
