Austin man arrested for biting the thumb off a convenience store clerk

AUSTIN, Texas -- A 32-year-old man is in the Travis County Jail was sent to jail Saturday night, accused of biting off the thumb of a convenience store clerk in West Austin near 290.

The alleged assault happened Saturday at the 7-11 on Highway 290 near Circle Drive. Police say after purchasing several items, Brandon Campbell became agitated, knocked his change on the floor and yelled at the clerk.

According to the arrest affidavit, when Campbell left the store, he dropped his items outside. The clerk approach Campbell to help and in response, Campbell punched the man in the face and bit off his left thumb, severing it at the knuckle.

The clerk's hand has been permanently disfigured. Campbell is charged with aggravated assault.
