AUSTIN, Texas -- Firefighters are keeping an eye on a house fire in Northwest Austin to make sure it doesn't spread.
Flames broke out at the home on Ladera Norte near Bull Creek Park just before 6 p.m. on Sunday. Firefighters found flames coming out of the back deck of the house.
Officials say they tried to stop them from spreading, but the flames worked their way inside the attic. Because of the heavy roof, crews had to battle the flames from outside the home.
The family inside make it out safely but officials say their house is a total loss. Damage to their home is estimated at around $465,000.
A neighbor's home also suffered about $60,000 in damage. Those residents are also safe, but one of their dogs died and another is missing.
A total of eight people are displaced.
