AUSTIN, Texas -- If you're planning a trip to London you can now fly directly from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
British Airways will fly a Boeing 787 Dreamliner non-stop from Austin to London five days a week just in time for the South by Southwest Festival. In May the service will increase to seven days a week.
The airline estimates it will bring an initial $70 million in economic impact to both countries.
The new route will create about 1,100 jobs for the air service industry, and a surge for local business too, according to the Austin Chamber of Commerce.
The first flight arriving from London will land in Austin at 5 p.m. Monday. The first departing flight will take off at s7 p.m. and land in London at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
If you'd like to see the plane take off Monday evening, the airport’s Family Viewing Area will provide a vantage point and refreshments. To access the area take the Highway71 access road past Presidential Boulevard (road to airport terminal). Take the first right to Golf Course Road and follow it to the end.
