A jet fuel spill shut down westbound Highway 71 in Bastrop County for eight hours Saturday morning. The Texas Department of Public Safety is calling it a hazardous material spill.

It happened at US Highway 71 at Tucker Hill Lane around 3:30 A.M. That's right on the county line between Travis and Bastrop.

More than 8,000 gallons of jet fuel spilled after a tanker truck carrying the fuel to ABIA was involved in an accident. The cause of that accident is under investigation.

Crews cleaned up the fuel and westbound Highway 71 reopened around 12 p.m.

There are no reported injuries.
