FORT WORTH — Fort Worth firefighters battled a deadly blaze at a home early Tuesday morning in southeast Fort Worth.

The fire broke out at about 5 a.m. inside a two-story home on Winnie Street.

Several people were inside the home, including two women who were killed in the blaze.

Albert Cruz, a resident who lives nearby, said he was walking his dog when a bright light and yelling caught his attention. He said he called 911 when he realized the light was flames.

"They were going like crazy, running back and forth yelling, 'Somebody's in there; somebody's in there," he said. "And we couldn't go in. The scene was engulfed in flames."

Chris Haney identified the victims as his mother, 71-year-old Mary Carolyn Haney, and his sister, 39-year-old Misty Haney. His sister's 9-year-old son was among the survivors. A 1-year-old child and three adults were also able to escape the blaze to safety.

According to relatives, the elder Haney would have celebrated her birthday Wednesday.

Red Cross crews were at the scene to help the survivors.
