FORT WORTH, Texas — People have been saying a lot about the distinctive new West 7th Street Bridge in Fort Worth.
But chances are they never expected to talk about a young man riding his bike over the span's six arches.
Mat Olson, a local BMX bike rider, sped across the narrow arches early Saturday afternoon.
The arches rise 24 feet above the pavement, and estimates put the bridge at another 30 to 40 feet above the Trinity River. The smooth concrete surface is about five feet wide.
A crowd of onlookers cheered Olson on.
He told News 8 that Fort Worth police were waiting on the other side of the bridge when he made it across safely.
They only issued a stern warning, he said.
Olson emphasized that he is a expert rider and cautioned against others attempting the same thing.
