SAN ANTONIO -- The Texas Department of Safety confirmed a pilot was killed in a plane that crashed in Boerne, near Highway 46 on Sunday.
The crash happened just after 6 p.m.
TxDPS confirmed a private plane, big enough to carry three people, crashed just before Ammann Road, near Highway 46. The plane clipped trees on the way down and hit a telephone pole before skidding at least 100 yards, according to TxDPS.
Fire crews, paramedics and police were all called out to the scene to provide assistance. By the time fire crew arrived, the plane was fully engulfed in flames, TxDPS officials said.
"The plane came as low as like the roof of a house and it was so extremely loud," witness Lillian Knopf said. "And the more faster it went down, the louder it came. It was pretty much like a car-crash sound, but twice as big and twice as loud."
A representative from the Federal Aviation Administration in San Antonio made it to the crash site after 9 p.m.
Residents of Codillera Ranch said police closed off Ammann Road at Highway 46.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
