GARLAND, Texas — If you are in the market for a new home and like a little charm in your life, the City of Garland is offering the deal of a lifetime.

Two 19th century homes are being given away... for free.

All the new owner has to do is move them!

Bob Morton isn't falling for it. "They're going to let you take your paycheck and let you move it," he said with a smirk. "It'll make a beautiful home."

After some checking, Morton said it would take $30,000 to move one where he would like it. He claims its only a deal if you like fixer-uppers (and have the truck to haul it away).

"It's free, but it takes a little bit of money to have it picked up and moved... and you gotta have the land to put it on," Morton said.

Currently, the City of Garland is willing to let you haul away the 19th century, 1,200-square-foot Texas frontier farmhouse. The city had hoped to restore it, but stopped after replacing the roof.

They never got around to the plumbing, heating, and electrical systems.

Columbai Mitchell is shopping for a new place to live, but got squeamish at the thought of fixing up "You have to renovate it... and that's a real lot of money, right?"

Oh, but it gets better.

To keep another historic farmhouse from the wrecking ball, the City of Garland is giving it away, too. With its original stained glass windows, the 1,500-square-foot Queen Anne style building and its historic partner are already sitting on truck beds, ready for new owner to haul them off.

Rick Wright wishes he had the cash. "I don't have a few thousand, let alone an extra few..." he said with a laugh.

But if you have what it takes, you can get a free house... and preserve history.

We checked — the City of Garland has available lots in the area starting at around $15,000. Moving costs vary, so you should check with your local carrier.
