SAN ANTONIO -- Animal Care Services say a puppy was found with a gash on its neck that officials believe was caused by a safety pin and an embedded collar.

Officials with the city shelter said on Wednesday that a passerby rescued the dog from Loop 410 and Highway 90, where it was nearly hit by an oncoming car.

The pup was given the name Shooter.

Animal cruelty investigators said the gash was likely caused by an embedded collar that was secured by a safety pin that was also found within the folds of his skin.

Anyone with more information is encouraged to call Animal Care Services at (210) 315-3130.
