SAN ANTONIO -- A heartbreaking tragedy claimed the life of a four-year-old boy.

The child drowned in Jacob's Creek Park, at Canyon Lake. Family members said they never saw the boy go into the water.

Rescue workers in Comal County were able to revive the young boy, but ultimately little Judas had been underwater too long to survive.

"I grabbed his legs, and I just started praying, Christina Gutierrez, the boy's mother, said.

"He was headed to the lake and ... I turned around to give my daughter her sandwich," Gutierrez said.

Seconds later, Gutierrez's worst nightmare began.

"When I turned around, Judas was gone."

Little Judas had somehow wandered into the water.

A while later, an onlooker found the little boy and pulled him out of the lake.

Emergency responders were able to reestablish a pulse. Judas was then rushed to the hospital where he later passed away.

The Gutierrez family is in need of support for Judas' funeral services and burial.

A memorial fund has been set up for those who would like to help.

Monetary donations can be made at any Chase bank, in the name of Christina Gutierrez. The account number is: 233329595. The routing number is: 111000614.
