SAN ANTONIO -- Tony Madero and his family had three bichon frise dogs named Jack, Jake and Hachi. Jake is the only one left after Hachi was killed last June and Jack was mauled Thursday.

Madero said the neighbor's dogs are to blame in both attacks.

KENS 5 spoke to the owner of the dogs that allegedly attacked Jake and Hachi. He had little to say, but said the dogs that were killed came onto his property.

The Madero family still takes Jake outside, but they keep a weapon close by.

"We have to carry a gun back there," Madero said. "This could have been a child."

The Madero family lives in west Bexar County, where there is no aggressive dog ordinance.

The legal process to launch a dangerous dog investigation has to be initiated by an individual.
