Austin named most expensive city for families

AUSTIN, Texas -- A new study finds Austin is the most expensive city to raise a family. Intuit Spending looked at how much families spend on education, groceries and household expenses.

Researchers say in Austin families spend on average $878 a month putting costs higher than places like San Francisco, Nashville, Seattle and Portland.

FIVE MOST EXPENSIVE CITIES FOR FAMILIES:

1. Austin $877.74

2. San Francisco $875.95

3. Nashville $817.48

4. Seattle $807.48

5. Portland $805.91

Families KVUE spoke with have mixed reactions.

"I strongly agree,” said Steven James. “I'm from Houston and the cost of living is different. I definitely agree with that."

"I think it's pretty affordable,” said Steven Wilber. “I lived in CA for seven years and I think it's a lot more affordable here."

According to the study the least expensive cities for families are:

1. Las Vegas   $544.81

2. Oklahoma City $560.34

3. Miami $569.45

4. New Orleans $572.12

5. Philadelphia $597.01
