GARLAND, Texas — The front lawn of Garland home where neighbors would see laughing children at play is now covered in crime tape.
A three-year-old boy was shot in the head in front of his mother, father and two young sisters. He later died of his injuries.
"It's horrible. I can't believe it," said neighbor Dustin Chumley. "It's so sad."
The shooting happened around 6 o'clock Wednesday evening on the first floor of the two-story house on Maritime Cove.
One of the child's parents called 911.
Investigators are still trying to determine exactly what happened, but they believe the shooting was accidental.
"He was taken to Children's Hospital in Dallas. We've learned that he died from his wound," said Garland police spokesman Sgt. Joe Harn. "Right now there doesn't appear there was foul play, but we are looking at everything so that we can prove up here exactly occurred here tonight."
The name of the victim had not been made public late Wednesday.
