AUSTIN -- New life for the New Year as an Austin family welcomed the city's first baby born in 2013.
Aubree Star Rodriguez was born at 12:04 New Years morning. Aubree Star was the first baby of the year born at St. Davids South Austin Medical Center.
Proud parents Mary and Leo Rodriguez expected to have Aubree days ago. Mary was induced on Saturday but her labor was slow.
“I had to go to cesarean and it just happens it was at that time of the night,” Mary Rodriguez said.
Aubree weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces and was 20 inches long.
And her mother said she is already a daddy’s girl.
“She has her daddy's chin, and his dimples,” Mary said.
“It's the best, it's my little girl,” said Leo. “She's the best.”
Her parents also hope Aubree will grow up to wear burnt orange
“Dad, he's a big hook ‘em fan,” said Mary. “Yes we all are. He's like yes she's going to dress like a Longhorn.”
This baby's first name also has special meaning.
A close friend of Mary's lost her mother, who's name was Aubree.
“So when I told her that that was going to be the name of my daughter she was very moved by that,” Mary said. “And Star, I always said if I have a baby girl I'd name her Star.”
Aubree has a seven-year-old brother who can't wait to meet her.
The newborn and her mom are set to go home on January 4th.
