AUSTIN, Texas -- An East Austin house fire sent six people to the hospital Monday morning, including two children who suffered critical injuries.
The children, ages 9 and 15, were taken to Dell Children’s Medical Center. Two other children who suffered smoke inhalation were also taken to Dell Children's Medical Center. EMS crews took the two adults to University Medical Center Brackenridge.
Battalion Chief Palmer Buck with Austin Fire Department said the blaze broke out at 5:15 a.m. on East 14th Street near Alamo Street. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames.
The fire shut down several blocks of the street to make room for emergency crews.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
