AUSTIN, Texas -- The gates opened at 11 a.m. Friday morning for the 11th annual Austin City Limits Music Festival.
Eight stages are stretched out across the Great Lawn at Zilker Park. The first band was scheduled to take the stage at 11:15 a.m. The music will continue through Sunday.
The talent at ACL 2012 are known worldwide, and so are the crowds. Festival organizers at C3 Presents estimates 75,000 people will attend the festival each day.
The festival has become a staple in the music industry. It's where new bands mingle with well-known bands, and where music fans are exposed to new sounds.
Some performance highlights of the first day include Florence + The Machine, Alabama Shakes and Weezer. The Black Keys will close out Friday performances.
On Saturday main events include The Shins, Gotye and Jack White. Neil Young and Crazy Horse will close out the evening.
On Sunday Gary Clark Jr., The Avett Brothers and Randy Rogers Band are among the scheduled performances. Red Hot Chili Peppers will then play starting at 8:15 p.m. on the Bud Light stage, marking the end of the 2012 festival.
Scheduling around all the performances can be a struggle for some fans. In all, there are more than 100 bands on the line-up.
