DALLAS, Texas -- Deion Sanders highly publicized new charter school, Prime Prep Academy, will not be fielding any athletic teams this year.
The DISD 11-3A District Executive Committee voted unanimously Friday morning to disqualify all athletics from district play after it was discovered that most of the students signed up to play were not eligible.
Committee members expressed their displeasure with Prime Prep’s lone representative at the meeting after they realized they would have to scramble to cover their football schedule with another team.
“This is a big disappointment," said Cleveland Starr, the interim athletic director for Prime Prep Academy. "What happens from here, we will just have to wait and see."
WFAA-TV has exclusive coverage of the D.E.C. meeting, which will air at 6 p.m. on News 8.
