SAN ANTONIO -- Three people were killed overnight in a blaze at a group home for the mentally disabled, firefighters say.
Asst. Fire Chief Robert Mikel said the Amistad Residential Facility, in the 300 block of Norwood, had 13 men inside when the fire started around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Four men were rescued from the fire. Firefighters said one of the four died at the scene, two more died at the hospital and one still remains in the hospital.
The other nine men made it out safely and are staying with the owner of the facility.
The identities of the deceased were not immediately available.
"At this point the cause is still to be determined," Mikel said. "Arson is on the way out -- they investigate all fires with fatalities."
Investigators combed the scene early Thursday morning, looking for answers.
Mikel said the fire was first called in by a neighbor, who reported seeing smoke on the second floor.
