AUSTIN -- Looking from the outside, it's hard to believe, stashed inside a small green building are more than 400 types of foods, packing the aisles, coolers, and bins. From produce to pasta, and even pet food.

"We really want to help Austinites have a place to go that they can trust to have really good ingredients all the time," said Brian Nunnery co-owner of in.gredients, a grocery store looking to redefine shopping when it comes to food.

It's a claim Nunnery believes in so much, it carries the grocery store's name.

"We've stripped a lot of the marketing out of the grocery store," explained Nunnery. "We've made this really simple, we've made the focus on the food products themselves."

That means, just the food. No boxes, no bags, no one asking for paper or plastic.

"This is kind of a new take on a very old way of shopping," smiled Nunnery.

A waste-free way of shopping, where you bring your own container for everything, even maple syrup and eggs. A scale records the empty container's weight which is the start of the grocery journey.

Cypress Engel is just one of the local farmers contributing to in.gredients' cause.

"They bought a bunch of melons and squash and things and they've already ran out so we're back a day later with more," said the owner of Engel Farms in Fredericksburg.

in.gredients goes so far as to show where every bit of food comes from before it even hits the store. QR codes on every product provides customers with the opportunity to find out more about a product after scanning it with a cell phone. It turned out that most of the store's flour comes from just two miles away in East Austin.

"I mean they don't have potato chips or something but I don't really go for that anyway," said Morgan Tamez who lives a few blocks away and is happy her neighborhood finally has a grocery store.

in.gredients is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. and is located at 2610 Manor Road.
