MATHIS, Texas (AP) -- One railroad worker has been killed and another critically hurt after falling about 30 feet during maintenance on a Union Pacific bridge in South Texas.
The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports the industrial accident happened Wednesday afternoon in Live Oak County.
Union Pacific spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza says the lift apparently fell during routine bridge work. Both men hit the ground in the accident northwest of Mathis.
Espinoza says one man died at the scene. She says the injured worker was in critical but stable condition Thursday at a Corpus Christi hospital. Names of the men haven’t been released.
The Live Oak County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday didn’t immediately provide information on the accident.
Union Pacific is based in Omaha, Neb.
