AUSTIN, Texas -- The Pittsburgh Steelers played on the TV screens Sunday afternoon but at Scholz Bier Garten in downtown Austin, the majority of the crowd both young and old could only think Longhorns.

UT fans slowly filled the tables as word of the BCS standings came down.

“To think that the computers and the polls are going to decide something like this is disturbing, but we've got to hope for the best,” said UT football fan, Roger Schenk.

Schenk may have hoped for the best but he still feared the worst.

“I'm mentally prepared for Oklahoma to jump us knowing how the system works,” said Schenk.

Despite UT's 45-35 win over the Sooners this season, Oklahoma still came out on top; ranking second in the BCS.

UT placed third, about one-hundredth of a point behind.

“I'm feeling a little violated actually - the BCS has done it again,” said UT football fan, Mark Johannsen.

Johannsen came to Scholz Garten on Sunday to surround himself with the Longhorn camaraderie after the standings were announced.

“The need for some I guess you'd call it liquid comfort…I can't figure it out,” said Johannsen.

Washing down the BCS blues at the dining room that's become a comfort zone and celebration spot for UT fans.

“The burnt orange gather and they take care of one another. We all are in it for the thick or thin together. That's what you would expect from the longhorns,” said Schenk.

The Longhorns still have a shot on the championship field - if Oklahoma loses to Missouri next week.

That's exactly what these Longhorn fans are hoping for.

“Anything can happen on a wet field, so Missouri may be able pull it off. They can score some points. It's not like they're playing someone like A&M,” said UT football fan, Ray Torres.

Only 1 point separated the two teams in the Coaches poll. Texas actually passed Oklahoma in the Harris poll. It's the computers that made the difference. OU moved all the way from No. 3 to No. 1 in the computers and that is what ultimately gave the Sooners a lead over the Longhorns.
