Texas drug bust leads to discovery of 7-foot gator in a pit
12:16 PM CST on Wednesday, November 26, 2008
ALTON, Texas -- Pet in a pit?
A drug bust at a home in South Texas led to the discovery of a 7-foot-long alligator in a pit topped by wire.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino says game wardens were being called in to pick up the alligator and determine whether the suspects legally had it on their property.
A home in Alton that was raided Tuesday led to the recovery of about 50 pounds of marijuana and cocaine, some apparent stolen goods, plus discovery of the lengthy reptile.
Investigators detained a father and son over the alleged drug and fencing operation.
A neighbor, Roy Pena, told KGBT-TV that the alligator “freaked” him out. Pena also says “it’s crazy, you don’t realize what your neighbors are doing.”
