AUSTIN, Texas—There may be some relief in sight for cash-strapped college kids.
A group of Texas senators has proposed legislation that would put a two-year moratorium on tuition hikes.
The bill would also limit increases after two years.
Tuition and fees at public, four-year universities have increased 53 percent since lawmakers deregulated tuition in 2003.
There were several other new bills proposed for the January legislative session.
One of them would require women who choose to have an abortion to listen for the heartbeat and get ultrasound images of the fetus first.
Another would crack down on employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants.
There is also a proposal to ditch the Trans-Texas Corridor superhighway.
One lawmaker filed a bill that would allow customers to get out of their wireless phone contracts if their device needed repair at least three times.
