Boy struck, killed by police cruiser
11:37 AM CDT on Saturday, October 18, 2008
DALLAS -- A police officer responding to a disturbance call struck and killed a 10-year-old boy riding a bicycle.
The boy, whose name has not yet been released, was riding on the shoulder of the road Friday night and turned into a street, darting in front of the patrol car. The officer, who police did not identify, was not using his lights or siren, said Lt. Vernon Hale, a Dallas police spokesman.
“It was just a dark road, not well lit,” Hale said. “This sounds like a combination of factors” that caused the accident.
Police said the accident happend around 7:30 p.m. The boy was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
