10:09 AM CDT on Friday, June 20, 2008
DALLAS - Three adults and one child were rushed to nearby hospitals after a car plowed into them as they walked on a sidewalk at about 9:30 p.m. in the 9700 block of Whitehurst in Dallas.
A witness said the car swerved after the driver was avoiding a truck. She then said as the driver lost control of the car, it began to head towards a man and a woman who was holding a baby. The car then struck a man, sending him over a bridge, she said.
The witness said she believes she also saw a man being dragged by the car as it continued to careen down the sidewalk.
Two males were taken to Baylor University Medical Center in critical condition; a woman was taken to Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas in serious condition and a child was taken to Children's Medical Center Dallas.
DWI officers were on the scene to test the driver for the possibility of alcohol in his system. The driver was not hurt in the accident.
