Man's body wrapped in tarp pulled from Trinity River

08:03 AM CST on Thursday, February 14, 2008

Dallas Morning News staff reports

DALLAS -- A man's body was found wrapped in a black tarp and duct tape in a branch of the Trinity River on Wednesday evening, police said.

A passing motorist notified the Hutchins Fire Department after seeing the body floating in the water near Dowdy Ferry and Teagarden roads in Rylie, near Dallas' boundary with Hutchins, police said. Dallas homicide investigators arrived at the scene after the Fire Department pulled the body from the water, police said.

The man was not identified Wednesday night. Police believe he was probably dumped off a nearby bridge and may have been there about a week.

He appeared to have a gunshot wound in his head, though the official cause of death had not been determined.
