There are only two more weeks until Christmas. While many people are busy buying toys and electronics, others are opting for fitness equipment.
When it comes to finding the perfect gift, the options are endless.
“I was looking at the ellipticals and he mentioned these core strength balance balls, so we're just kind of shopping,” said Elaine Copeland, a shopper. She wants to give the gift of fitness.
“You hear so much about getting in shape and we all need to get into shape a little bit,” said Copeland.
“One of the big things this year has been the perfect pushup,” said Alex Cilauro, a manager at Sports Authority. He says the Perfect Pushup is going strong this year. It allows you to target specific muscles in the chest while doing pushups.
“We average about 8 a week and in a matter of 2 or 3 days, it's off the shelves,” said Cilauro. He says another big seller is boxing equipment.
“I think that overall, everybody's into the cardiovascular part of the workout,” said Cilauro.
Of course, treadmills and elliptical trainers are popular every year.
“A lot of the team sport stuff, a lot of ellipticals, treadmills are really big, hockey tables that we have, foosball tables, that kind of thing. Pedometers are actually good stocking stuffers for people,” said Bo Swierc, a supervisor at Academy. She says athletic equipment is scoring big with customers this season.
“It’s a lot less expensive than a gym membership, it's more convenient, you can do it any time of day,” said Swierc.
Will king is taking an elliptical trainer for a test run.
“It's kind of going to be a combination gift for my wife and myself and my kids,” said King. He'll have to wait a while to see whether this gift is put to good use.
Retailers suggest trying out the equipment before you buy it.
