Watching your favorite football games could soon cost you

Cable isn’t cheap, but you might be surprised at who’s trying to raise your bill. It’s not your provider, but the NFL.

But this clash between cable companies and the NFL means most of America can’t see eight of this year’s biggest games.

“They’re just trying to get richer. Rich get richer I guess,” football fan Ramon Rocha said.

Rocha would reluctantly pay another 70 cents a month to get the NFL Network on cable television. That’s the only place to see the Texans play Denver on Dec. 13 , or Dallas play Carolina on the 22nd.

The NFL wants to make all cable customers pay for the channel, even those who don’t care about football.

“Most people knit with DPN needles,” Virginia Martinez said. “I don’t know any more about football and I wouldn’t waste my time watching them. And I wouldn’t pay an extra dollar to watch them.”

You can get the NFL network in Houston. You just have to pay another $8 a month to Comcast, to get their sports tier. That’s not’s good enough though for the NFL network. They want it to be on basic cable for everybody. One owner is urging people to cancel their cable contracts until that happens.

“I do want to really encourage all Green Bay fans and cowboy fans and fans that are just fans of the NFL to make those switches to get on satellite, get off the Time Warners and the Comcasts,” Jerry Jones from the Dallas Cowboys said.

Meanwhile, Comcast is worried about what their customers will think.

“We feel our customers would not want an increase to cover a network that essentially has eight NFL games,” Ray Purser from Comcast said.

Now the legislature is ready to hold a public hearing, taking this fight off the field and maybe rushing it into your wallet.
