05:58 PM CDT on Tuesday, October 30, 2007
ABILENE, TX -- A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder in the beating death of a homeless man, and police were seeking a second suspect.
The boy, whose name was not released because of his age, was arrested Monday and booked into juvenile detention, police Sgt. John Reid said.
The man was found severely beaten early Saturday in an alley behind a homeless ministry center. Doctors removed him from life support on Sunday, police said.
Witnesses told police the victim was assaulted by two males in their late teens or early 20s.
"It seems like a senseless, violent act by people who have no respect for other people," Sgt. Tim Schmidt said. "It's just a b rutal act, seemingly unprovoked."
Police did not released any information about a possible motive.
The name of the 48-year-old victim was not pending notification of family members.
