Waller ISD sues to have bond issue approved
10:53 AM CDT on Monday, September 24, 2007
Protesters are expected in Waller County State District Court on Monday morning to protest a school bond.
Waller ISD is trying to get a judge to order Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott to sign off on the bond, which is more than $49 million.
But critics of the bond say it does not allot enough money to a predominantly black elementary school -- Jones Elementary.
Abbott has said he will not approve the bond sale until a lawsuit is heard and litigation is complete.
The county's justice of the peace will try to surrender to officials for two outstanding arrest warrants. DeWayne Charleston was charged regarding alleged conduct while trying to take pictures of the school. He was arrested in Harris County, released, and then the Waller charges arose.
